The Rise of Skywalker - who is watching? Expectations?
Latest Star Wars comes out next month - Rise if Skywalker.

Who is going to watch it? The franchise is on a downward curve now. The Last Jedi was an abomination.

Apparently Emperor Palpatine is back. How did he survive RoTJ? Doesn’t that negate Darth’s redemption?

The whole series looks like a gigantic Disney turdball. Even the prequels are masterpieces by comparison.

Still going though!

Thoughts Star Wars fan?

The Mandalorian (Star Wars spin off) - Watched the first two episodes and quite enjoyed it, will watch the last episode over the weekend. Very much styled on a spaghetti western.

Just saw the trailer in the Imax before watching Le Mans 66 (which was excellent)

Stunning visuals.

Will be going. One thing is ALMOST certain - it can’t be any worse than the last one. But then, Abrams being back could just see that comment being proved false...

Im going on the 19th. My lad loves it so I personally cant wait.

I reckon Ren is going to die, but thats pretty obvious I'd have thought. He's a shite villain anyway

I'll see it after opening weekend when crowds die down, but have very low expectations.

very much agree Abram set up well with the first and Johnson laid a fat steaming pile of warmth in the second. I don't even think Abrams will be able to rescue that plot. the decision to bring palpatine back is already off in the wrong direction.

that whole casino plot line could have been written out of the movie and would have made little difference, apart from maybe improving it

Re: The Rise of Skywalker - who is watching? Expectations?
I think I'll go with my daughter.

We'll be going for two reasons:

1. Might as well see the final one having sat through a couple of crappish ones

2. There's a slim chance it might be better (actually thought Rogue One was good and the Han Solo one okay)

3. But more than anything, we're expecting some unintended bellylaughs due to wooden acting (the knob that plays Kylo Ren) and ridiculous plot lines (like the rebel alliance being reduced to the cosmic equivalent of one man in a canoe, without a paddle, up a gum tree, with saltwater crocodiles all around)

We won't bother with wanky 3-D etc, just wait until it comes on at the local cinema a few minutes' walk from our place

I still love the trailer from the Force Awakens, simple bit of piano, that builds...

"Who are you?"
"Know One ."

So many of us think it will be crap, but we go out of obligation. Star Wars was so amazing for people born in the 60s and 70s and we have that loyalty.

Re: The Rise of Skywalker - who is watching? Expectations?
I will go and see it. Since I'm now 53 I will not have a clue what is going on, who anyone is, and best of all, I won't care.

Couple of hours of hopefully enjoyable hokum, followed up with a curry.

That'll do.

The Force Awakens is OK but no more than that. There are worse ways of spending a couple of hours.

Re: The Rise of Skywalker - who is watching? Expectations?
Rogue One is very good indeed.
It has the vibe of the second half of Full Metal Jacket. Unlike all the other Star Wars films it is a proper old school war movie and all the better for it.
The third best if not not second best of the Star Wars franchise and the closest in feel to The Empire Strikes back.
The prequels are awful. Saw the first at the premier, the second on DVD and didn't bother with the third.
Haven't seen the last Jedi. My son did and his review was enough to tell it is a waste of time.
The whole shebang went to shit as soon as the Ewoks appeared.

I read online what is supposed to be the story outline of the new film. If the leak is real, it’s gonna be disappointing.

Re: The Rise of Skywalker - who is watching? Expectations?
Since Disney took over they have all been grim. Rogue One has been the only one worth a repeat viewing. And the studio must hate that because everyone dies in it. I thought the prequels was bad enough. Shitting on the Originals. But it was George’s baby then. And he could wreck it. If he wanted to. But with the house of the mouse it’s death by a thousand cuts. A hundred ideas. All pulling in the opposite direction. And the result a giant cluster fuck.!

I will go see the new one at the cinema. Only because you should see a Star Wars film at least once on the big screen. But it will be at the cheapest price going. And a long way removed from seeing Return of the Jedi on the opening day at Leicester Square.

Re: The Rise of Skywalker - who is watching? Expectations?
Rogue one was excellent

I enjoyed the force awakens - didn’t bother with the last Jedi after a twat at work spoiled it, but the YouTube videos of mark hammil talking about how much he hates the latest three films are far better than the films could ever be

Re: The Rise of Skywalker - who is watching? Expectations?
Even though it did little knew, I really enjoyed the Force Awakens and felt it captured what a Star Wars movie should be, setting up quite a few plots and mysteries that its sequels could tie into.

My expectations for the Last Jedi were pretty high, but when I saw it at the cinema it just felt like a huge mess that ignored a lot of what the previous film set up. It does get better after a couple of repeat viewings although the casino planet could be straight out of the prequels.

I'm looking forward to the finale, although not as hyped for it as I was for the last two. Hopefully it ties everything together and answers the questions raised early on. And that Chewie survives.

Yeah I'll probably go and see it. The special effects will look good on a big screen if nothing else!
